Abstract

This paper deals with the production-inventory problem for a finite time-horizon with linear trend in demand and shortages, and presents an alternative approach for finding the optimal number of cycles;the opti-mal adjustment times and the optimal production rate for each cycle. The method is developed by assuming that succesive cycle lengths are in arith-metic progression. The corresponding results in the absence of shortage are also derived and finally some applided examples are given.
